Recently, leaders of the School of Engineering of the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) led a team of professors to Guangdong Omat Advanced Materials Co., Ltd. to explore government–industry–university–research–application collaboration. The leaders of both sides agreed that, as an institution and an enterprise rooted in Guangdong, they already have a sound geographic foundation for such collaboration, and should strengthen alignment on this basis and, in response to the new demands of the 15th Five-Year Plan on industrial development, deepen cooperation among the university, the locality, and the enterprise.

The School of Engineering of SUSTech comprises 11 departments (schools), including the Department of Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, and the Department of Ocean Science and Engineering, with 12 research institutes such as the Institute of Innovative Materials. The school currently has 25 academicians. In recent years, its disciplinary development has achieved remarkable results, with Materials Science and Engineering entering the top 1‰ of ESI globally.
Responsible officials from the Shaoguan Municipal Industry and Information Technology Bureau, the Shaoguan Municipal State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, and the Shaoguan High-Tech Zone Management Committee participated.
